Lake Macquarie City Art Gallery
Lake Macquarie City Art Gallery is an exceptional cultural and tourist destination, widely recognised for its exhibition program and work with the community.
Located on the shores of Australia’s largest coastal saltwater lake, the leafy grounds include the award-winning gallery with state-of-the-art seminar facilities, mosaic pathways and a sculpture park. Lake Macquarie is unique among regional galleries due to its location and quality of programming. Touring shows alternate with gallery-curated exhibitions featuring nationally significant artists, many of whom share a connection with the Hunter.
Contemporary visual arts, craft and design practice is the main focus of our exhibitions, and respectful Aboriginal projects are a strong component of the program.
The gallery can be reached easily via the lake foreshore cycleway, the water or by public transport.
CLOSED FOR REDEVELOPMENT
The Gallery is closed temporarily from April – November 2019 while we undergo an exciting $2.3 million transformation. During this time, you can still enjoy the Sculpture Park, as well as our art classes that are continuing in new locations.
Stay tuned for details of our grand reopening celebration in November.
Offers a selection of the highest quality handcrafted items, as well as books, cards, novelty items and exhibition-related merchandise.
Established in 1980, the gallery moved four times before settling in its current premises at Booragul in May 2001.
The gallery has formalised its environmental responsibilities with the implementation of a sustainability plan for its publications and for the operation of the building.
