First Class 14

6 FEBRUARY – 22 MARCH 2015

Taking centre stage is the gallery’s First Class 14 exhibition project offering a counterpoint to the popular ARTEXPRESS event by showcasing the innovative subject matter and quality of work produced by Hunter and Central Coast students. Each year the project gives teachers an opportunity to celebrate outstanding HSC Visual Arts submissions from the previous year; affords the young artists a chance to exhibit in a professional gallery environment; and encourages audiences to reflect on the diversity of talent, and the youth voice. In 2015, the selected artworks investigate issues of tolerance and intolerance, inclusion and exclusion. This year's students look at the concept of identity and the development of the self through topical subjects such as feminism, sexuality and cultural identity.Uniquely local and in its seventh big year, the First Class series has grown into a major event in the gallery’s exhibition calendar.

A gallery partnership project curated by Ann Caddey and Belinda Howden in consultation with Meryl Ryan .
