11 April - 1 June

In late 2013 the gallery launched a new initiative to showcase secondary school photomedia projects, with the first being a portrait exhibition by Whitebridge High School Year 11 students. All exhibitions are proudly displayed in our education facility to publicly acknowledge the accomplishments of local students and their teachers.

This second exhibition in our CLICK series is from Lake Munmorah High School. For this photographic project, senior Visual Arts students were inspired by ideas and symbolism represented in key works studied by contemporary Aboriginal artists, Christian Thompson and Tracey Moffat. The students’ explorations of personal experiences and thoughtfully considered compositions demonstrate a deep engagement and connection between the art theory studied and the artworks made in response. Indigenous students in the class embraced the opportunity to visually explore their own struggles and celebrations with identity and their Aboriginality. All photographs on display were created using handheld devices such as iphones and ipods with impressive resultscoincides with First Class 13, will be selected from projects submitted by schools from across the region.

A gallery project coordinated by Debbie Abraham and Rob Cleworth.
