Newcastle Junior School : BIG

14 December 2012 – 3 February 2013

Newcastle Junior School caters to the needs of local primary students with a moderate or severe intellectual disability. The school believes in a quality art education program to develop students’ skills. This is the fourth annual exhibition the gallery has worked on in partnership with the school. In response to the theme ‘big’ each student has created a section of a painting which, when assembled, renders a large scale version of one of Vincent van Gogh’s sunflower paintings, a Pablo Picasso still life, and a work from Sidney Nolan’s Ned Kelly series. The three ‘big’ works are a visual and textural celebration of the creative process.
