Chile-born, Hunter-based artist Pablo Tapia is well known for his technical facility and distinctive imagery. These qualities are informed by his respect for the palette and drama of centuries-old direct oil painting methodologies and traditional genres. For Tapia, communication is key. If a work is to succeed at an elementary level, he maintains, ‘a single visual idea must be the main objective behind the creation of it regardless of an image’s complex symbolism, politics, or content’. Characteristic of his practice therefore, is an elemental commitment to skill, simplicity and clarity of intention.
