The Ronaldo Cameron collection

This collection comprises artworks presented as gifts to the performance artist Ronaldo Cameron. The gifts were offered as a gesture of support during his illness with motor neurone disease.

Gathered by his long-term friends George Gittoes and Gabrielle Dalton, the collection includes works by many well known artists such as Martin Sharp, Garry Shead, Marea Gazzard and GW Bot, as well as several documentary photographic works by George Gittoes, Chooie Tan and Geoff Amber. These photographs capture Cameron’s exuberance and acknowledge his legacy as a performance and community artist.

With typical generosity of spirit, Cameron wanted to share this generous gift with the community and, as he grew up in nearby Swansea, decided to bequest it to the gallery. The collection was formally bequested at a celebratory exhibition at the gallery in December 1991, when the artist was still able to participate.
